We were granted a council name and number on April 18, 1982. At that
time our small church was only a mission and we were so called St.
Mary's Mission Council 8083. The council started with 36 charter
members. A few of these men are still active in the council to this
day.
These men wanted to stand together and defend the Catholic Church and to look after the members of the Mission. They had an extreme adoration for the Eucharist and for our Blessed Mother. With Rosaries in pocket and Christ in their hearts, they set out to gain the required amount of members to form a council. One of the charter members was Rev. Celestine E. Pfannenstiel. He was a Missionary Servant of the Most Holy Trinity. He came to us from Holy Trinity, Alabama. That is the site of the first of the Catholic Missions to be started in that state. Father Celestine built what is St. Mary's church in Savannah, TN., as well as the St. Mary's in Bolivar, TN. He was instrumental in starting many of the catholic churches in West Tennessee. He had a great love for Mary and the Eucharist. He retired and moved back to Holy Trinity, AL. to work alongside the Brothers there to help the children in the area. Most especially, he enjoyed working with the poor in the region. Father Celestine left us on May 28, 1999 and is buried alongside his fellow brothers and priests at St. Joseph's church in Holy Trinity, AL. Below is a list of all the charter members of the council. Some living and some departed. Please include all of these men in your prayers. Without them, our council would not be, and our many good works would not be. |
